I explained the growth mindset to my lab partner who was convinced that she couldn't do well in the class because she naturally wasn't good at science or good at taking tests. She was especially down in the dumps after we got our exam grades back. I explained that it is more helpful to have a growth mindset because she was doing well when we did discussions in class but she wasn't relaying her information well through the test. I told her that it was more important that she was learning the material rather than trying to get that perfect score on the exam. I also told her that she can learn to be a better test taker too through different strategies that she can try. She hadn't heard of growth mindset before so it was new to her when I tried to explain it to her.  Sharing Ideas: Freepik

I would persist until I figured it out on my own, no matter how long it took but then I realized that I need to learn to depend on others sometimes.    It's okay to ask for help: Growth Mindset Cat I like this growth mindset cat because it reminds me that even if I run into an obstacle, I can't just give up and stay in one place. This motto means a lot to me because I have been through quite a few obstacles this year and persisting through with the right mindset has gotten me past all of these obstacles. I made this acronym because I am often very scared to make a mistake. Whenever a professor asks the class a question, I hesitate to answer because I'm afraid of being wrong. I have heard of the growth mindset before from my AP psychology class in high school but I don’t remember learning about Carol Dweck. I really like the growth mindset and believe in it whole heartedly. There are some moments when I have a fixed mindset because my parents have always driven me to make perfect scores no matter what and I get stressed out and so focused on trying to get that perfect score that I cram and don’t actually truly learn the material. My biggest challenge when it comes to learning new things is how others perceive me. I work really hard and have always put a lot on my plate, for example: taking more credit hours because I wanted to challenge myself and be able to handle more. However, others seemed to care more about my grades than I do. People would make bets on my test scores or make comments like “Oh, of course Rosa made a 100 on that test, why bother asking” so then I would feel worse when I didn’t.
