Reading Notes: Chinese Fairy Tales Part A

The Cave of the Beasts
Main Characters:
Father, 2 youngest daughters, wolf, fox
Setting:
In the mountains
Plot:
The dad went to the woods and found 7 wild duck eggs which is perfect because he has 7 daughters but he brought them home and hid them for himself and his wife. His wife cooked all 7 and gave them to each daughter as they woke up for breakfast and told them not to tell anyone else. The father was so upset that he wanted to leave the girls in the mountains to get eaten by wolves. He invited them for a car ride to their "grandma's place" and the oldest daughters said no because they were suspicious and the 2 youngest daughters agreed. He drove out to the mountains and told them to get out so that he could go ahead and warn grandma but then he never came back to get them. They found a stone to sleep on as a pillow but then saw a light that led into a cave full of gold and jewels. The cave was owned by a wolf and fox that came home that night to sleep on their golden beds without noticing the girls so the girls snuck out and lit the cave on fire and trapped them in. The wolf and fox begged to be saved and said they would give the girls some of the treasure but the girls said no and let them die. They lived in the cave until the dad missed them and came back so they all took some of the treasure home and lived happily ever after.

Story Idea:

I would change the fact that the wolf and fox die because it's a little scary to have 2 little girls starting a fire to kill them and I'm a little upset that the father got to live happily ever after with the treasure too after he abandoned his daughters there to die. I would change it to where the father doesn't get any of the treasure, instead the daughters could invite the rest of the family to live in the cave with the wolf and fox as guards, while the father doesn't get to live there.
